Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years all run into one long holiday around out house. That makes for over a month worth of a holiday. I’m always so happy to see New Years Day so I can get my house back to being just my house instead of a holiday house. I finally got everything put away for next year yesterday. It took about 3 days of walking around finding all of the stuff that comes out for the holidays so I could pack them away for next year.
I have got to come up with a better form of decorating for the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Christmas Tree with all of the lights and memorable ornaments but I hate putting it up and taking it down. I don’t do live or real trees anymore. It just didn’t seem right to me one year to kill a tree to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Oh well, that’s just me. Maybe next year I’ll scale back just a bit.

When I was younger, I worked full time (with lots of overtime) and took college courses in the evenings in addition to raising two young children. My husband also worked full-time, and was a busy volunteer with the local rescue squad. Every weekend was a struggle to get the grocery shopping, laundry, and housework done. We often told him “we need a housewife!” He thought I was joking, but I really wasn’t! I desperately needed and wanted someone to come to our house and take care of those weekend chores for me!
Where we lived, in rural Maine, there was no service that would clean my house – the other woman for me, so I had to do it myself. It was exhausting, and my relationship with my friends and family suffered because of that. We had enough money to pay for the help, but there simply was no one that would do the work, and do it well. We tried a few local cleaning ladies, but they were lazy and sloppy, and charged us for time not worked, and for chores not done. I am so glad that those years are long gone.
Bought a pumpkin last night at the local church pumpkin patch. It was only $10 and I like to carve a pumpkin for Halloween even though there’s no kids in the house. I just think it is part of the fall celebration and its fun.
If my yard got more sun I could plant some pumpkin seeds myself and have a nice garden. But there’s no sun – too many trees. Then again, the shade from the trees is nice and helps keep my house cooler in the summer. So its a trade-off.
I’m one of those people that likes everything to have a place and everything to be in it’s place. Do you know what I mean? Well my cabinet space is limited and that makes it hard to organize my kitchen. Well that was until I found a website that sells the perfect kitchen organizers. Just about anything you ever dreamed of to organize your kitchen is right there on that website.
I swear I thought I was in heaven because now I can find items that will give me more space in the limited space I have and even better, I’ll be able to find what I want because everything will have it’s own space. The kitchen cabinet organizers are just what I have needed. The spice organizer was a great surprise too because there are so many different types.
They even have canned food and soda organizers. I can get a lot more canned food and sodas in a small space now. And you know your gadget drawer that you can never find anything in, well they even have solutions for that too. I got to get back to this site and start shopping.
One of the things that I like the most about the Internet is that it can make helping relatives that live far away to solve their problems without having to travel to where they are. For example, when Sharon was telling me that Aunt Gladys was moving to Burlington and she was going to have to look for a new insurance agent it was really easy to go online and search for burlington nc car insurance from here without even having to get out of my chair!
I went online, did a little bit of research, found several links, copied and pasted them into an email and sent them off to Sharon, suggesting that she pass the information along to Aunt Gladys. Moving and setting up a new home in different states sure is a lot easier than it used to be!
